Young defendant in armed robbery spared prison

October 8, 2014

Presiding Superior Court Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi, P.J.S.C. suspended the sentence of a 22 year old Teaneck man who pleaded guilty for his role in a 2012 armed robbery in Lodi .

Instead of state prison, Daniel Margulies, who has a history of drug use, will be allowed to apply for entry to the drug court program. The drug court program is a rigorous program in which defendants who commit drug related offenses are offered a chance to avail themselves of treatment and recovery services in lieu of harsher sentences.

Hackensack attorney Kevin G. Roe highlighted his client's need for help.

"It's a heartbreaking case," Roe said. "His parents have spent more than a year coming back and forth trying to help their son."
